Places in Chronos Empty Places in Chronos

Post by Shea Fri Apr 25, 2014 3:37 pm

The Town Square: A large, open, paved area where the Markets are held on occasion. There are a few benches to sit on, but otherwise not much else when there are no stalls set up, besides the Clock Tower (more like a Clock on a large post) and a small fountain.

~*~

North Chronos: The park district is exactly that, a park. There’s a picnic area in the large garden, along with a fountain. There is also a small path off to one side of the park that leads to a shrine where people can pray to whichever gods or deities they wish.

East Chronos: Also known as the entertainment district. It is home to the Mayor’s office and the town’s only inn, along with several game stores and a pub, which occasionally holds parties for those of age. The current game stores include an archery shooting range, an arcade and a mirror maze. There is also a ‘jam centre’ which both teaches and promotes musical talents.

The Mayor’s Office: There is more to the place than just the office the Mayor works in. Town meetings are held between workers and council members, title deeds to homes are purchased here and anyone looking to host an event or open a new store must go through a meeting here. There’s also a small home in the back to allow the Mayor and helping family members to rest on busy days without having to travel home and back. Members of the Mayor’s family have been known to stay in the home area for a few days if they have an argument with someone at home.

Police Station: Due to the people of Chronos being used to peace, the police station is only recently built, due to fear caused by the timeshifts. It's located next door to the Mayor's office and only has a staff of about five.

Doctor's Office: The only medical clinic in Chronos. There is no need for a hospital as people rarely get seriously ill or injured. The head doctor lives in a small apartment attached to the back of the building, while any assistants live in South Chronos and work on call. There is a room for injured patients to stay in if needed and a few smaller, separate ones for those who are sick and need to stay. The doctor also does house calls occasionally.

The Inn: The only place of its kind in Chronos. It gives outside visitors and travellers a place to stay and serves as a temporary living arrangement for those who are moving into Chronos but haven’t quite set up a home yet. There are two floors to the inn; the ground floor has a kitchen, bathrooms and rooms for staff members to live in, along with the reservation desk where rooms are booked. The second floor is where all the guest rooms are. While these rooms aren’t very big, they’re clean and comfortable.

The Pub: Almost always occupied by one of its staff members, but only actually officially open at night, the pub is often one of the busiest places once the sun sets. It’s a place where adults can hang out and drink or just enjoy the live music from local bands that play there some nights. ‘Members’, also known as friends of the owner, are able to enter during the day if the staff member present at the time recognises them.

The Archery shooting range: Considered both a game and a serious training provider, the shooting range offers lessons in archery and prizes to anyone who can get high scores on the target shooting game set up in store.

The Arcade: Like arcades in any other town, old and new games are available for people to play for prizes or just to have fun. The arcade is one of the few places that seems to really use that much of the current technology from outside Chronos. Some of the games featured involve a man climbing to save a girl while an angry ape throws barrels at him, a zombie shooting game, racing simulators and even claw machines.

The Mirror Maze: More frustrating than it sounds, the mirror maze is changed often to avoid becoming ‘too easy’ and involves reaching a treasure chest at the end, containing a figurine that must be returned to the available staff member to prove the person attempting to complete the maze has done so. In the past there were issues with people getting lost for a while, only to lie about making it to the end, so the figurine was introduced to prevent this continuing. Prizes can be won by completing the maze and those attempting it are timed. The shorter the time; the better the prize received.

The Jam Centre: A place where residents of Chronos can receive lessons in singing or musical instruments, depending on what the volunteer teachers are capable of. There are also rooms available for friends/bands to just hang out and ‘jam’ together and practice for performances.

South Chronos: The residential district, like its names suggests, is where the townspeople live. Most people who own stores live in homes built into the backs of them, but everyone else lives here. There is no real low class or high class in Chronos, everyone more or less has the same sized home as each other. All the homes are one or two story cottage-like buildings, depending on how many members of a family live together.

Halfmoon Court: A court, as its name suggests, ending in a semi-circle of houses, all one story. At the end of the court there is a dog walking track which leads around to West Chronos. Halfmoon Crt connects to Willow St.

Trinity Street: One of the main streets, with both one and two storied homes. It leads to three other streets in South Chronos, which is where it gets its name. It is connected to Willow St, Fallen Oak Rd & Tower Ln.

Willow Street: Known for its large willow tree on one corner and only single story homes. It connects to Trinity St and Halfmoon Crt.

Cottage Street: All one story cottages. Connects to Willow St.

Fallen Oak Road: Back when there were still dirt roads, an old oak tree fell. It was big enough to block the entire road and took weeks to remove. The road’s name started as a joke when the tree blocked it, but ended up sticking. Most homes on this road are two storied. Connects Infinite Road and Trinity Street.

Infinite Road: It goes over a steep hill, and walking it after a long day can indeed make it feel ‘infinite’. Despite this, it is a main road and has both one and two storied homes. It connects to Trinity St via Fallen Oak Rd and leads onto a few other streets as well.

Tower Lane: Connects the Town Square to South Chronos and is named in reference to the clock tower that stands in the Square. It connects to Trinity St.

West Chronos: The business district of Chronos, where everyone goes for their regular shopping needs. The stores in this area include a general store, a trading post, a toy store and a second hand store. West Chronos is also home to the post office, bank and a self-defence & well-being centre.

The Post Office: The post office is run by two roommates, who live in the small apartment in the back of the building. One looks after the office and sees customers during the day, while the other collects and delivers the mail. The daily mail deliveries are the main form of communication between people in and around Chronos, so they take their job very seriously.
They also work closely with the out-of-town post offices that connect Chronos to the surrounding areas.

The General Store: A small store that sells basic food and household items. Currently it is only being run by one person, so it can get pretty busy. The store sells a small, general selection of clothing and is also home to a townsperson who works as a tailor, though they only set up in store to do clothing repairs a few times a week.

Chronos Café: Works in partnership alongside the General store and the Markets. The menu may not have the largest variety, but the food's all freshly made when ordered and it's the only place to buy meals when you can't be bothered cooking, besides the pub when it opens at night.

The Trading Post: Have an item you don’t want any longer and don’t want to be ripped off by other merchants when you try to sell it? Fan of recycling? The Trading Post is the place to go for such reasons. Instead of selling your item, the TP allows you to hand in the item and pick one that has already been handed in to take home instead. It saves asking around town for someone who wants your unneeded item.

The Toy Store: All the toys here are handmade by the toymaker who runs the store. The toys range from stuffed animals and puppets to doll houses and wooden boats. Occasionally other townspeople may also bring in handmade toys to sell.

Second Hand Store: When they say this is a second hand store, they really mean it. People are often surprised when the store has rare items for sale and often find themselves unable to resist shopping here. They probably wouldn’t though if they knew the rumours about some of the items being stolen belongings are true…

The Bank: There are no ATMs or any other electronic machines to withdraw money from in Chronos. The bank is the only option. Customers can leave their money and valuable items here for safe keeping, like a safety deposit box.

The Self-Defence & Well-Being Centre: At first, there was just a dojo that taught martial arts and sword fighting, but then a peace-loving resident protested against the owner and demanded he be allowed to teach his own, peaceful ways of dealing with anger and conflict too. Despite working in the same building, the two teachers don’t get along at all.
